Just hours ago Experian’s new report shows that Electric vehicle sales have more than doubled during the first half of the year in the US and Elon Musk’s Tesla is leading with a huge double-digit factor.

The EV registration data from the first half of 2021 shows that electric vehicle sales are up to 214,111 units in the US versus 98,351 units during the same period last year.

“That’s 117% growth year-over-year,” notes Electrek and adds that “Tesla is still dominating the market with about 66% of the entire EV market in the US.”

GM comes in second with a distant 9.6% of the market thanks to the Chevy Bolt EV, and Ford in third with 5.2% thanks to the Mustang Mach-E.

Electrek also points that that “according to Experian, while EV sales more than doubled during the first half of the year in the US based on registration data, it still accounts for only 2.5% of the US auto market.”

While the EV sales in the United States account only 2.5 percent, it’s good that China and Europe also drive the sales.

A user named Nick, comments under Teslarati’s story and notes that “The US is far behind in EV adoption and it’s important because the US has a huge disadvantage in other ways of reducing transport emissions. Europe and China have decent public transport options which the US doesn’t.
Other options are growing in other countries such as improved bike lanes and electric scooters, sadly, the US is cursed with suburban sprawl that makes other.”

Another user, named Marcello Pacheco, notes that “only with the Cybertruck and the Model 2 this situation will change. And let’s not forget that Tesla is selling as many EVs as it can build. This is a supply issue rather than a demand one.”

What do you think of Tesla’s wide lead of EV sales in the first half of 2021 in the US auto market?
